Delhi roads to be adorned with 6.75 lakh flowering pots plants, foliage

Around 6.75 lakh pots containing flowering plants and foliage will decorate the 61 roads and locations across Delhi for the upcoming G20 Summit, Raj Niwas officials said on Sunday.
The major locations that have been beautified with potted plants include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Dhaula Kuan-IGI Airport Road, Palam Technical Area, India Gate C-Hexagon, Mandi House, Akbar Road roundabout, Delhi Gate, Rajghat, and ITPO, among others.
After a preparatory meeting headed by Lt Governor V K Saxena, directions were issued identifying agencies who would undertake this drive, and they were tasked with procuring a specific number of plants and pots, preferably from their own nurseries, officials said.
An official mentioned that five departments and agencies worked together to procure and place potted plants, with the LG overseeing progress and inspecting corridors in the last couple of months, ensuring seamless coordination. The Forest Department and Delhi Parks and Garden Society planted 3.75 lakh plants (1.25 lakh foliage, 2.5 lakh flowering), PWD planted 50,000 (35,000 foliage, 15,000 flowering), DDA planted 1 lakh (85,000 foliage, 15,000 flowering), and NDMC and MCD placed 1 lakh and 50,000 pots, respectively, the official said.

Delhi decked up ‘like a bride’ before G20 Summit: AAP Minister

NEW DELHI: Welcoming G20 delegates to the national capital for next month’s crucial summit, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the city has been decorated “like a bride” on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s instructions. Delhi’s roads have been kept clean and beautified. Arrangements have been made so that the tourists who are coming don’t face any issues,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said. The Delhi Minister further said that they expect the G20 delegates to sing Arvind Kejriwal’s praise and Delhi’s praise when they go back to their respective nations, enamoured by Delhi’s “beauty”.
