The Finance Minister on Sunday announced an allocation of Rs 12,503.65 crore for the Delhi Police in the Union Budget 2026–27, reflecting a marginal rise compared to the revised estimate of Rs 12,405.70 crore for the previous financial year. The actual spending by the Delhi Police during 2024–25 stood at Rs 11,931.66 crore.

From the overall outlay, Rs 908.78 crore has been set aside specifically for the training and education of police personnel, highlighting the government’s emphasis on capacity building, professional development, and skill enhancement within the force. In addition, Rs 342.50 crore has been earmarked for strengthening infrastructure, including improvements to police buildings, equipment, and other operational assets.

Officials said the allocation is designed to cover routine administrative and operational expenses, while also supporting important infrastructure and technology-oriented projects. These include the rollout of modern traffic management systems, the expansion of advanced communication networks, and the implementation of various IT-enabled policing initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, coordination, and response time.

In the Union Budget 2025–26, the Centre had provided Rs 12,259.16 crore to the Delhi Police, which represented an increase of Rs 858.35 crore, or approximately 7.4 per cent, over the allocation made in 2024–25. Officials noted that the steady rise in funding over successive years reflects the Centre’s continued commitment to strengthening law enforcement capabilities in the national capital.

According to officials, the enhanced allocation in the current Budget is expected to support and accelerate several flagship initiatives, including the Safe City project, and help improve overall policing standards, operational effectiveness, and public safety infrastructure across Delhi.
