Delhi police arrests Tillu Tajpuria gang sharpshooter after shootout

Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a sharp shooter of the notorious Tillu Tajpuriya- Devendra Bambhia gang after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday night. According to the police, the arrested accused named ‘Nihaal’ was involved in the recent Mundka murder case where a man was shot dead by assailants in the city’s outer area.
Deceased Amit Lakra, a 26-year-old who was recently released on bail was killed by bike-borne assailants on November 9. The responsibility of this murder was taken by rival Tillu Tajpuriya- Devender Bambiha gang through a social media post.
Following this, the special cell vigorously analyzed CCTV footages, technical data, and gathered manual inputs to trace the shooters involved. Acting upon an intelligence tip, the team laid a trap near UER -II road adjacent to Kheda Canal, Shahbad Dairy area.
“At around 9 PM, the police team spotted the suspect riding a scooty and signaled him to stop. However, upon seeing the police, the suspect attempted to flee, but the scooty slipped, bringing him to a halt. The police quickly surrounded the suspect and ordered him to surrender. In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, the suspect pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the police team”, said Special Cell in a statement.
“In retaliation and self-defense, the police team fired upon him and in the process the suspect was injured. The suspect was swiftly overpowered and apprehended. The injured accused was immediately taken to Hospital for medical treatment. No police personnel were injured in the exchange”, it added.
The police team recovered a semi-automatic pistol and four live cartridges from the suspect and seized his scooty.
On verification, it was found that the scooty was stolen from Sultanpuri area in November 2024. The accused has been identified as Nihal son Lal Chand, age 22 years resident of Pratap Nagar, Khijrabad, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana
During interrogation, Nihal confessed to his involvement in the shooting of Amit Lakra at Mundka and his affiliation with the Tillu Tajpuria gang.
It is pertinent to note here that Amit Lakra who was killed on November 9 was a member of the Gogi gang.
The rivalry between the Jitender Gogi and Tajpuriya gangs dates back to 2010. Over the years, their conflict has led to several killings, highlighting the severity of their feud.
Gogi was shot dead inside a Rohini court in 2020, allegedly orchestrated by Tajpuria, who was incarcerated at the time while Tajpuria was stabbed to death last year in August inside Tihar jail.
