Delhi Police Arrest 140 Narco Offenders in ‘Operation Kavach’; Seize Ganja, Heroin, Arms, and Illicit Liquor

The Delhi Police have arrested 140 individuals linked to drug offenses in a coordinated crackdown under ‘Operation Kavach 6.0,’ according to officials. The operation targeted 874 locations across 15 districts in Delhi, leading to the registration of 139 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Enhanced Coordination in Sixth Phase of Operation Kavach

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhisham Singh highlighted that this was the sixth edition of the operation, which was executed with improved coordination compared to previous phases.

“We have been conducting Operation Kavach consistently, and this sixth phase saw better coordination. A significant number of actions were taken against offenders, and interrogations of those arrested and detained have begun,” said Singh in a statement to ANI.

Singh further noted that the operation serves as a major starting point for further actions to curb drug trafficking in the city. “This is just a kick-start through a larger operation. Following the leads, we will continue efforts to keep the situation under control,” he added.

Large Quantity of Drugs Seized

The operation yielded a substantial haul of narcotics, as confirmed by Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia. The seizures included:

• Heroin: 870.1 grams
• Ganja: 193.8 kilograms
• Cocaine: 16.1 grams
• MDMA: 404 grams

In addition to drugs, police recovered Rs 34,420 in cash, a 20-gram gold chain, one motorcycle, one tempo, and one scooter.

Operation Kavach 6.0 also targeted the illegal alcohol trade, resulting in:

• 203 cases registered under the Delhi Excise Act
• 202 individuals arrested
• 244 cans of beer, 29.942 quarters, and 198.75 liters of illicit liquor seized

Moreover, the operation led to the arrest of 14 individuals under the Arms Act, with the recovery of:

• 6 country-made pistols
• 9 live cartridges
• 8 knives

A total of 1,224 individuals were taken into preventive custody as part of the broader crackdown.

Launched in May 2023, Operation Kavach aims to identify and apprehend those involved in drug trafficking and distribution across the national capital. The initiative is part of a larger strategy to address the growing narcotics problem and maintain public safety in Delhi.

The recent success of ‘Operation Kavach 6.0’ is seen as a significant step in the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and combat organized crime in the city. The Delhi Police have reiterated their commitment to continuing such coordinated operations to keep the streets free from narcotics and illegal activities.
