The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi on Saturday. They warned that heavy rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms could hit the city for about three hours, and the alert is valid until 8:11 PM. Authorities asked people to stay indoors and avoid low-lying or waterlogged areas. The intense showers could make moving around the city difficult and disrupt daily activities. The IMD also predicted gusty winds and rainfall in areas like Civil Lines, Red Fort, Lajpat Nagar, Narela, Bawana, Alipur, and ITO on Saturday evening and Sunday.
Heavy Rainfall Hits Delhi and NCR
On Saturday afternoon, many parts of Delhi and the national capital region, including Noida, experienced rainfall. The IMD said moderate to heavy showers, along with thunderstorms and lightning, could continue in Delhi on Sunday. Rain affected north, central, south, and southeast Delhi. The Public Works Department reported that their flood control room received about ten complaints of waterlogging during the day. Most of these were cleared within an hour, so residents faced minimal disruption.

Temperature and Humidity
The maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday reached 34.5 degrees Celsius, which is 0.3 degrees below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was 25.7 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees below the normal. By 5:30 PM, the relative humidity was 76 per cent, showing the air had a lot of moisture.
Air Quality
Even with the rainfall, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “satisfactory” category at 6 PM. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was 93, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the showers helped improve air circulation, which can reduce pollution for a while.
Safety Measures
Authorities advised Delhi residents to stay safe during the heavy rain also they suggested avoiding waterlogged areas and staying indoors if possible. Commuters were asked to check traffic updates and public transport schedules before heading out. Emergency services and flood control teams stayed alert to respond quickly to any problems.
