The Delhi government declared November 25, 2025, a public holiday in the National Capital Territory of Delhi on account of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tweeted the declaration on X and saluted the Guru’s eternal message for courage, compassion, and freedom to practice faith that has inspired countless generations.
She said, “The Delhi Government has decided to declare 25 November 2025 as a Public Holiday to commemorate the sacred occasion of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continue to guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead.”

What’s Closed and What’s Open
- Government offices and departments: Most state government offices are expected to remain closed.
- Schools and colleges: All government schools and several private schools are likely to remain shut.
- Hospitals and health services: Emergency services and government hospitals will function as usual.
- Public transport: The Delhi Metro, bus, and taxi services will run as scheduled.
Grand Commemoration at Red Fort
The Chief Minister also invited citizens from Delhi and across India to join in the three-day grand celebration of the Guru’s 350th martyrdom anniversary, which will be held at Red Fort from November 23 to 25.
Shaheedi Diwas is a tribute to the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, who was executed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1675. The day honors his ultimate sacrifice for religious freedom and his resistance to forced conversions.
State Celebrations in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana
According to a report by Mint, the Uttar Pradesh government has revised the gazetted holiday for 2025 by shifting it from November 24 to November 25.
In Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini declared that the state government would celebrate the 350th martyrdom anniversary at Jyotisar in association with the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend on November 25.
As part of the celebrations, four holy nagar kirtan yatras will pass through all districts of Haryana and converge at Kurukshetra on November 24.
Special Train Services by Indian Railways
Indian Railways has announced two special train services to facilitate travel for devotees:
A 22-coach train leaving Patna Sahib on Nov 23 at 6:40 am, will arrive at Sri Anandpur Sahib at 4.15 am on Nov 24.
Another train service will operate from Old Delhi, connecting pilgrims to the celebrations. This observance not only honors the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur but also reinforces his timeless principles of courage, faith, and compassion, which continue to echo all over India.
