The national capital experienced overcast skies and fresh spells of heavy rain on Friday night, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms and showers continuing through Saturday morning. Heavy downpours caused traffic jams and waterlogging in several parts of Delhi and Noida, according to images taken throughout the Delhi-NCR region.
Commuters faced delays due to slick roads and reduced visibility, with authorities advising everyone to plan accordingly, especially with Rakshabandhan festivities tomorrow.
The IMD expects the rain and thunderstorms to persist over the next few days in Delhi, with Saturday’s temperature forecasted to range between a minimum of 27°C and a maximum of 36°C.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) registered at 116 on Friday, placing it in the “moderate” category, a likely improvement thanks to the fresh showers. Further spells of rain are expected on August 13 and 14, which will bring down temperatures by a few degrees, offering some respite from the recent heat.
Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad are also set to experience cloudy skies and thundery developments through the weekend. Late Friday, heavy rains lashed parts of Noida, providing much-needed relief from the humidity but also raising concerns over traffic disruptions.
Mahamaya Flyover in Noida saw vehicles moving cautiously due to slick roads and reduced visibility. Authorities have urged motorists to drive carefully and anticipate delays during peak hours.

Until Friday evening, Delhi had mostly clear skies with intermittent cloud cover. The maximum temperature recorded stood at 36.2°C—about 2 degrees above the normal average for this time of year. Residents might see a little cooler weather in the days ahead as long as the rains continue.
As the monsoon season progresses, the capital and surrounding cities remain on alert for heavy showers and thunder, prompting city officials and commuters alike to prepare for potential disruptions in daily life.
