Delhi Lt. Governor Criticizes Authorities After Deaths Of Four Aspirants

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the deaths of four civil service aspirants in two separate incidents in the national capital. He called the situation “most unfortunate and unacceptable.”

Three of the aspirants died on Saturday in a flooded basement of a coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar following heavy rains. Earlier in the week, another aspirant died due to electrocution caused by waterlogging, sparking widespread outrage.

In a series of posts on X, Saxena criticized the “criminal neglect” and poor maintenance by the relevant agencies. He stated that the city’s drainage system and infrastructure had clearly failed, reflecting a broader issue of misgovernance over the past decade.

Saxena also questioned the responsibility of coaching institutions and landlords for not ensuring the safety of students who pay high fees and rents. He emphasized that such issues cannot be ignored any longer.

The Lieutenant Governor has instructed the Divisional Commissioner to submit a detailed report on the incident by Tuesday. He assured that those responsible for this negligence will be held accountable.

Following the incidents, the owner and coordinator of the coaching center were arrested. The center, which had permission to use the basement as a storage area, was found to be using it as a library, violating regulations.
