Delhi: High Court issues notice on plea of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation

The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Centre Government on Thursday in response to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust’s two petitions.

Notably these two organizations have challenged the Central Government’s cancellation of their Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license. Justice Jyoti Singh served the notice on the Central Government and requested a response to the petitions. A final hearing has been scheduled on 23rd August.

For those unversed, their license was revoked due to the alleged violation.

These organizations have ties to the Gandhi family. These are led by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi is a member. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is supported by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

The licenses were revoked following an investigation by an inter-ministerial committee.

The probe was launched to look into allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received funds from the Chinese embassy.
