Delhi HC denies Sisodia’s interim bail plea, allows him to meet ailing wife

The Delhi High Court has denied former deputy chief minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, interim bail for six weeks in relation to the alleged State Excise policy case. However, the court has granted Sisodia permission to meet his ailing wife, who is currently in custody, for one day either at his residence or in the hospital. The court has specified that the meeting should take place between 10 AM and 5 PM on a day of convenience for Sisodia’s wife. It is important to note that Sisodia is prohibited from meeting and making any statements or engaging with the media during this period. He is only allowed to meet his wife and immediate family members.

In the meantime, the Delhi High Court has instructed the Delhi Police to ensure that no media gathering takes place when Sisodia visits his wife, whether at their residence or the hospital. The court has also imposed restrictions on Sisodia’s use of mobile phones and the internet during this period. However, the court has emphasized the importance of providing the best medical treatment to Mrs. Sisodia. While the choice of medical facility remains with the patient and her family, the court has suggested that she undergo examination by a board of doctors to be arranged by the medical superintendent of AIIMS.

Despite these considerations, the court has denied Manish Sisodia’s request for a six-week bail. The court deemed the allegations in the case to be of an extremely serious nature, taking into account the position Sisodia previously held.ED’s Counsel Zohaib Hossain on Saturday submitted a report in relation to Sisodia’s wife’s medical issue and opposed his interim bail plea. There is no substantial change in her health. Sisodia held 18 portfolios as a minister and did not have time to visit his wife.
