Cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir, criticised the Arvind Kejriwal government and urged Delhi residents to “wake up” as various areas of Delhi were drowned as a result of an unusual rise in the Yamuna’s level.
“Wake up Delhiites. Delhi has become a gutter. Nothing is for free; this is the PRICE!” the East Delhi MP tweeted, mocking the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s schemes to give residents of the nation’s capital free utilities.
BJP leaders have been blaming the AAP government for the flood like situation in the National Capital, mismanaging the crisis, and lacking preparation. The AAP government made it clear that the water level in the Yamuna has never been higher, that this scenario is unusual, and that its priority is to save lives now.
The Arvind Kejriwal government has issued a number of emergency orders in order to combat the flooding in numerous places, including the VIP zone near the Chief Minister’s residence and the Delhi Assembly.
Even though Delhi hasn’t seen much rain over the last four days, the condition, like a flood, is the result of a massive discharge of water from a Haryana barrage. The Haryana barrage, swollen by the monsoon havoc in north India, had to release surplus water despite the Kejriwal government seeking the Centre’s help to step in and block the release of water.
Following a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Kejriwal made a number of emergency announcements. Delhi’s schools and colleges will be closed till Sunday, and all government offices will function in the work from home mode, he said.
