A day after a 16-year-old girl was stabbed and bludgeoned to death in the national capital’s Shahbad Dairy area, Delhi Police sources said the murder could have been premeditated because Sahil, the 20-year-old accused, purchased the knife used in the murder a fortnight ago.
“During questioning, Sahil stated that he purchased the knife used in the murder about 15 days ago from a weekly market,” according to police sources. The accused, however, has not disclosed the location from which he purchased the knife, and police are investigating, according to sources.
According to the sources, police are also looking into whether the murder was a “crime of passion” or a “sudden provocation.” According to sources, Sahil fled the city after the murder and turned off his phone.
He arrived in Uttar Pradesh after changing two buses. Sahil was arrested on Monday in Bulandshahr by Delhi Police and taken to police remand for two days today. According to police sources, Sahil dumped his weapon in Rithala before fleeing to Bulandshahr after committing the murder.
A CCTV recording of the incident shows Sahil allegedly stabbing the girl several times with a knife. He kept stabbing her even after she collapsed to the ground. He kicked her, then took a nearby concrete slab and bludgeoned her head. All the while, video showed people watching the events unfold and walking by without intervening. A dog is seen approaching the location at one point.
