Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome from supporters on Sunday as he arrived to inaugurate two key infrastructure projects in Delhi—the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Hundreds of people lined up along his convoy route and gathered near the stage to greet him.

Leaders Join Inauguration Ceremony

At the event, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari jointly felicitated PM Modi. The ceremony highlighted the government’s focus on building modern road networks to ease travel and boost connectivity across the capital and its adjoining states.

Projects Aimed at Decongesting Delhi

Both projects form part of the government’s wider plan to decongest Delhi and ensure faster, smoother travel. Officials said the new highways will cut traffic on Delhi’s overburdened roads, reduce travel time for commuters, and improve connectivity with satellite towns in Haryana. PM Modi described them as steps towards creating “world-class infrastructure that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility.”

Delhi Section of Dwarka Expressway

The newly inaugurated 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway has been built at a cost of about ₹5,360 crore. It provides multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot.

The Delhi stretch has been divided into two parts:

  • Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21.

  • Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, ensuring direct connectivity to UER-II.

Earlier, in March 2024, PM Modi had inaugurated the 19 km Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, which links seamlessly with the Delhi portion.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, along with newly built links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. Constructed at a cost of nearly ₹5,580 crore, this project is expected to greatly reduce traffic pressure on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and decongest bottlenecks like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.

The new spurs will give direct highway access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, strengthen industrial connectivity, reduce heavy traffic inside Delhi, and speed up the movement of goods in the National Capital Region (NCR).

A Boost for NCR Connectivity

With these two projects, Delhi-NCR’s road network gets a significant upgrade. Authorities believe the new expressways will not only save commuters’ time but also support economic growth by improving access to industrial hubs, logistics centres, and upcoming infrastructure projects around the capital.
