Several areas of the national capital experienced light rain on Sunday evening, as a western disturbance continued to affect central Pakistan and its surrounding regions. Locations such as Kota House, Akbar Road, and Pandara Park in Delhi received light rainfall.
Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast light to isolated rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR over the next two days, starting Sunday, due to the ongoing western disturbance.
IMD scientist Naresh Kumar spoke to ANI about the weather conditions in North India and Delhi-NCR, stating that temperatures in Delhi-NCR are expected to drop after December 9. “The western disturbance persists over central Pakistan and its surrounding areas… Light to moderate rain is expected in the Himalayas today and tomorrow. Light rain is also expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi,” Kumar said.
He added that temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR could rise on December 8 and 9, but after December 9, they would begin to decrease, potentially leading to cold wave conditions. “The cold wave will first affect Rajasthan, followed by Punjab and Haryana,” he noted.

In its latest forecast, the IMD predicted a cold wave across most of Northern India starting December 9. Cold wave conditions are expected to persist in West Rajasthan from December 9 to December 14, while Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh will experience similar conditions from December 11.
The IMD defines cold wave conditions as a significant drop in temperature compared to normal climatological values for a given location.
In response to the worsening weather, residents in Delhi sought shelter in night shelters set up by the Delhi government on Saturday night. Shelters have been established at various locations across the city, including AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin Flyover.
