Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly 'attacked' by a 35-year-old man who breached security during her weekly Jan Sunwai at her Civil Lines residence. The shocking incident unfolded when the man first handed some papers to the CM and then suddenly slapped her.
Delhi Police detained him on the spot and launched an inquiry. The Ministry of Home Affairs will be briefed on the incident. The attack triggered sharp political reactions, with leaders from both the BJP and the Congress condemning the assault and questioning the state of security in the national capital.
The attack took place on Thursday morning when CM Gupta met citizens at her official residence for her weekly Jan Sunwai. The session was meant to address grievances, but turned chaotic after the 35-year-old accused breached security. He walked up to the CM and slapped her.
Sources confirmed that the man handed over some papers before launching the attack. Police immediately detained him and took him to the police station for questioning.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemned the incident. He called the attack unacceptable and dangerous, especially since it occurred inside the CM’s residence during a public hearing. The Delhi BJP released a message denouncing the assault.
Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav also reacted strongly. He called the attack very unfortunate and said it exposed the failure of security measures. Yadav pointed out that if the CM of Delhi is not safe inside her official residence, then ordinary citizens, especially women, remain vulnerable. He urged authorities to take strict action and fix lapses.
Delhi Police confirmed that the accused has been detained and taken into custody. An inquiry has been launched to investigate how the man breached security so easily and managed to approach the Chief Minister. Officials stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs will be briefed on the matter.
