Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held the first Jan Sunwai meeting at the Civil Lines camp office for the first time after the attack on Wednesday.
The session began at 8 am, including representatives from across the nation seeking solutions to their problems. Gupta sat behind the table as people approached with their applications, one by one, for submission. The police formed an inner security ring around her.
Attendees were checked with metal detectors to ensure safety. The area was monitored with CCTV cameras, and mobile devices, cameras, and even spectacles were not allowed inside. Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia was present to personally supervise the security measures.

The strict security measures come after the incident on August 20. Rekha Gupta was attacked at her camp office on Raj Niwas Marg by a Gujarati man, identified as Rajeshbhai Sakriya. Sakariya's family claimed that he was immensely attached to dogs and infuriated by the Supreme Court's ruling to put the strays in shelter homes. During the event, he allegedly handed papers to Gupta before suddenly grabbing her hand and trying to pull her.
Last week, Gupta directed that all designated officers must attend Jan Sunwai sessions without fail. “If a designated officer is unable to attend, they must obtain prior permission from the concerned District Magistrate. Absence without such permission will invite disciplinary action,” a statement from the CMO said.
She stressed that officials’ presence at the hearings was non-negotiable. According to her, “officers' presence at the programmes is part of their accountability to the public, and it cannot be ignored.”
