The accused driver, who initially took the victims to a hospital 17 km away, is now absconding, with the victim's family alleging critical delays in medical aid.
A senior government official lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run incident involving a BMW on Delhi's Ring Road on Sunday. The victim, identified as Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, was returning from a visit to the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara with his wife when the luxury car plowed into their motorcycle.
The accident occurred near the Delhi Cantt Metro Station, a high-traffic area on the Ring Road. Initial reports and eyewitness testimonies claim that a woman operating the BMW lost control and violently crashed with the Singhs’ motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the BMW itself overturned onto the road.
Bystanders reported that after the collision, the female driver and her male companion, who was also in the car, emerged from the overturned vehicle. Instead of waiting for the police, they hailed a taxi, placed the injured couple inside, and directed it to a nearby hospital.
Navjot Singh was not just any citizen, he was a senior bureaucrat serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. Following his visit to the revered Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, he was riding his motorcycle with his spouse. In an unexplained way, his death represents the awful loss of a dedicated public servant.
The sequence of events after the crash is now under intense scrutiny. The victim’s son has made a grave allegation that critically impacted the chances of survival.
The son claims that the accused couple took his severely injured parents to the New Life Hospital in GTB Nagar, which is approximately 17 kilometers away from the accident site, bypassing numerous closer medical facilities. Precious time was lost during this long journey. By the time they arrived, Navjot Singh was declared dead on arrival. His wife remains seriously injured.

The situation took a more suspicious turn when it was revealed that the female driver is currently absconding. While it was initially reported that she and her husband were injured and hospitalized, the police have now confirmed she is missing. Her companion is reportedly still receiving treatment.
The Delhi Police have impounded the severely damaged BMW and the motorcycle. Teams from the Crime Unit and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have examined the accident site for evidence.
The disappearance of the primary accused in an ongoing court case complicates the investigation into charges of reckless driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and fleeing the scene of a crime.
Adding to the chaos of the sad evening, the incident caused severe traffic congestion on the Ring Road for more than an hour.
