Delhi BJP stands strong with Sundar Nagri residents, halts slum demolition in East Delhi

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government for sending bulldozers to demolish slums. On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Delhi BJP members joined local residents in Sundar Nagri, East Delhi, to protest against officials from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, who had arrived to carry out the demolition. Under the leadership of Delhi BJP General Secretary Vishnu Mittal, and supported by Slum Cell Coordinator Sushil Chauhan along with a large group of BJP workers, the protesters united with the residents to successfully prevent the demolition of the slums.
During the protest, BJP workers, led by Vishnu Mittal, showed great determination in confronting the bulldozer sent by the government. The demolition threatened the homes and livelihoods of many underprivileged families, but the protesters, led by Mittal, stood firm, creating a human barrier to stop the bulldozer from advancing.
Their resistance went beyond physical protest. The BJP workers also took swift legal action to protect the residents, helping to secure a court order that halted the demolition. This combination of direct protest and legal intervention played a key role in safeguarding the homes of the slum dwellers, marking a strong stance against the government’s actions.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed deep regret, pointing out the irony of Arvind Kejriwal sending bulldozers to Sundar Nagri, the very place where his political journey in Delhi began.
Sachdeva remarked that Kejriwal has betrayed not only his early political mentors and colleagues but also Sundar Nagri itself, the community that initially provided him a platform for his political rise.
