Monsoon showers caused a devastating cloudburst in Dehradun on Tuesday morning, leading to flash floods, road destruction, and widespread damage in the capital of Uttarakhand. Two are missing, and some shops have been swept away.
Prolonged and heavy overnight rain filled rivers and inundated roads, leaving garbage littering the city. Early morning images depicted muddy water flowing through residential quarters and marketplaces.
The Tamsa river overflowed with a powerful current, and debris accumulated around the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple.

In Sahastradhara, the floodwaters washed away shops. "Some shops were destroyed, and two individuals are missing. Search operations are on, District Magistrate Savin Bansal told The Indian Express.

The downpour also struck Rishikesh, where the Chandrabhaga river water breached dangerously and entered the highway.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered three persons stuck in the river, and scores of vehicles were left stranded because of flooding.
On the Dehradun-Haridwar highway, the bridge near Fun Valley and Uttarakhand Dental College was severely damaged, with the middle part of the road collapsing under the strong flow.

People have been advised by authorities to avoid rivers and streams. "National Disaster Response Force teams, State Disaster Response Force teams, and Public Works Department teams are involved in the rescue operation, Bansal informed.
The Incident Response System (IRS) was rolled out to coordinate relief efforts, police and rescue teams meanwhile carrying out search and recovery operations.
The weather has inundated vast areas of Dehradun, with efforts continuing to find the missing persons and restore vital services.
