Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut was found guilty on Thursday by the Metropolitan Magistrate’s 25th Court in Mazgaon in a defamation case initiated by Dr. Medha Kirit Somaiya, the wife of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.
The case stemmed from Raut’s alleged defamatory comments accusing Dr. Somaiya and her husband of involvement in a ₹100 crore corruption scandal linked to the construction of public toilets under the jurisdiction of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation.
The court has ordered Raut to pay a fine of ₹25,000 as compensation.
Dr. Somaiya, who filed the case in May 2022, sought criminal defamation proceedings against Raut under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code.
