Death toll rises to 4, rescue operations underway in Bhiwandi building collapse incident

According to a Thane Municipal Corporation official, the death toll in the Bhiwandi building collapse has risen to four.

On Saturday afternoon, a three-story building collapsed in the Bhiwandi area of Maharashtra’s Thane district, trapping several people beneath the rubble.

An official from Thane Municipal Corporation said that “Death toll rises to four in the Bhiwandi building collapse incident in Thane, Maharashtra. Further rescue operations are underway.”

Earlier, NDRF and TDRF rescued a man who had been trapped under the collapsed building for more than 20 hours. Meanwhile, teams from the Fire Brigade, Police, TDRF, and NDRF are on the scene rescuing people who have become trapped in the debris.

On Saturday night, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Indira Gandhi Hospital and met with the injured. CM Shinde also visited the scene and stated that a rescue operation is underway, with up to 12 people rescued.

He also inquired about the two children who were unharmed in the accident. Prem and Prince are the names of the two children. The CM has also directed that the injured be treated at government expense.

Earlier on Saturday, he announced Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance to the kin of the deceased in the Bhiwandi building collapse, according to an official statement.

CM Shinde also directed the administration that the police, fire department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other rescue teams carry out their duties properly, and that the injured be taken to hospitals immediately and treated.
