Chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the Delhi Police on Friday in the alleged rape of an 85-year-old lady in Delhi’s Shakarpur.
“The Delhi Commission of Women has received information of rape with an 85-year-old woman. The Commission has been informed that the woman lives in a slum in Shakarpur area of Delhi. She has informed that she lives alone in a jhuggi after the death of her husband”, the notice read.
“She alleged that on September 1, at 4:00 am, a person forcibly entered her jhuggi and raped her. She has also informed that the accused punched her face, cut her lip by a blade, and tried to strangulate her. There are injuries all over her face and private parts as well”, the notice added.
DCW chief stated, “This is a very serious matter. Please provide the following information to the Commission: Copy of FIR registered in the matter, details of accused arrested in the matter, steps taken by the Delhi Police to provide security to the woman, whether a list of elderly people living alone in your jurisdiction has been maintained by the police? Please inform the steps that have been taken to protect them, detailed action taken report in the matter.”
