Sitaram Yechury, the esteemed General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), has passed away. The 79-year-old leader was undergoing treatment for pneumonia at AIIMS, New Delhi, when he succumbed to his illness.
Yechury, a prominent figure in Indian politics, had been at the forefront of the CPI(M) for several years, shaping the party’s policies and strategies. His leadership and contributions to Indian political discourse were widely recognized and respected.
He was admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi a few weeks ago, where he received intensive care. Despite the medical team’s efforts, Yechury’s condition worsened, leading to his unfortunate demise.
The news of his passing has been met with an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, colleagues, and supporters across the country. Tributes have been paid to Yechury for his dedication to his party and his significant role in Indian politics.
Arrangements for his final rites are expected to be announced by the family and party officials shortly.
