Days after supporting the actor turned politician Vijay-led TVK government in Tamil Nadu, the Congress is all set.to get two Ministerial berth in the new government on Thursday, after a gap of 59 years.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal confirmed the news and said that the two newly elected MLAs are all set to be indulging Ted in Vijay led government as Ministers on Thursday.
Venugopal said, “Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji has approved the induction of party MLAs Advocate Rajesh Kumar and P. Vishwanathan into the Tamil Nadu cabinet, and they will be taking oath as Ministers tomorrow.”
The Congress leader said that this is a “historic occasion for us”, as the Congress joins the Tamil Nadu cabinet after a long gap of 59 years.
“I convey my best wishes to them, we are confident that they will deliver on the hopes and aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu, and will work to realise the bold vision of welfare and pro-people governance laid down by LoP Rahul Gandhi ji,” Venugopal added.
The Congress had won five seats in the recently concluded assembly polls as part of the SP Aliiance led by DMK.
The Congress decided to supoort Vijay-led TVK, which had won 108 seats but fell short of majority mark of 118 seats in 234 member assembly.
After Congress announced to supoort the TVK government in Tamil Nadu, the DMK had slammed Congress as backstabbers.
Besides Congress, the Left parties, VCK and IUML also supported the Vijay led TVK.
Vijay took oath as Chief Minister on May 10.
