The Congress party will take an aggressive stance against the Narendra Modi-led government during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on July 21. Senior leaders decided on this strategy during a meeting of the party’s Parliament strategy group on Tuesday, where they resolved to demand accountability over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the covert Operation Sindoor, and the Special Intensive Review of voter rolls in Bihar.

Strategy Finalized at Sonia Gandhi’s Residence

The high-level meeting took place at the residence of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Among the attendees were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader Pramod Tiwari, and party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh. Notably, senior leaders like Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi, Manickam Tagore, and Mohd Jawed were absent due to prior commitments.

Following the meeting, Tiwari stated, “The party’s top priority in Parliament will be to demand answers from the government on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the details of Operation Sindoor. Why have the terrorists not been caught, and who is responsible?”

Congress to Seek Clarifications on US Claims and Operation Sindoor

Apart from domestic issues, the Congress-led Opposition plans to raise concerns about US President Donald Trump’s alleged claims of mediating between India and Pakistan for a ceasefire. Tiwari emphasized, “Two things are essential here. First, the Prime Minister has not responded to the US President’s claim. Secondly, where are those terrorists, and who is responsible for this (Pahalgam attack)?... In the meeting, we have decided to raise all these concerns.”

INDIA Bloc Meet Likely Before Parliament Session

According to sources, Congress will coordinate with its allies in the INDIA bloc ahead of the monsoon session. A joint meeting of the bloc is likely on July 19 or 20 to formulate a united floor strategy against the ruling BJP.

Kharge Meets Dhankhar, Lists Opposition’s Demands

Earlier in the day, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to outline the Opposition’s agenda for the session. In a post on X, Kharge wrote, “The Opposition wants a productive Rajya Sabha session from July 21st. For that to happen several

strategic, political, foreign policy and socio-economic issues that are of great public concern need to be debated and discussed.”

As the monsoon session approaches, the Congress party gears up to challenge the government on several fronts — from the terror attack in Pahalgam to transparency in Operation Sindoor and electoral irregularities in Bihar. The party's leaders have signaled a strong push for debates and disclosures, making the session a likely battleground for major political confrontations.
