Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is poised to intensify the Congress campaign in poll-bound Bihar, joining brother Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra. Her presence at events in Supaul on August 26 and Sitamarhi on August 27 is expected to inject fresh life into the opposition narrative alleging the oppression of voters.

Her visit also coincides with Hartalika Teej festivals, symbolically marking the Congress effort to connect with woman voters. For party authorities, her involvement stresses the seriousness with which the Congress is approaching the electoral battle in Bihar.

Rahul Gandhi’s Sharp Attack on Election Commission

Addressing a public meeting at Araria, Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his charge that the SIR in the electoral rolls in Bihar meant ‘Institutionalized’ vote theft. He alleged a tacit understanding between the ECI and the BJP, saying, “We will not allow these elections to be stolen.”

Of late, Rahul has been mixing fiery political messaging with strong grassroots connect. He was seen riding a Royal Enfield motorbike with Bihar Congress Chief Rajesh Ram as pillion, sipping tea with villagers at a roadside dhaba during the Seemanchal leg of the march and interacting with farmers at a makhana farm in Katihar. These public outreach activities, amplified often on social media, are meant to project both relatability and determination in the struggle for, as he puts it, “protecting democracy and Constitution.”

Developing Momentum for an Overall Opposition Campaign

The Voter Adhikar Yatra, traversing over 20 districts, is meant to culminate in a mega rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on September 1. It will form part of a larger Opposition campaign endeavors, which also involves slogan-driven “Vote Thief Pack Your Bags” rallies across state capitals and a month-long nationwide signature campaign from mid-September.

Congress leaders argue that this is Rahul’s second attempt at mass mobilization in two years after the Bharat Jodo Yatra became a game changer for the party in many states and converted into victories in the 2024 general elections. The idea now is to keep that momentum alive while blatantly challenging the credibility of the electoral process.

With Priyanka Gandhi added to the Bihar campaign, the Congress intends to reach deeper into the ranks of the population, mobilizing female voters and strengthening its tie-ups with regional partners. Questions about voter rolls, democracy, and institutional neutrality have brought the yatra beyond the realm of a regional political exercise; it is being molded into a national fight for the very foundation of India’s democracy.
