Congress leaders strategize for 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Senior leaders of the Congress party from Uttarakhand gathered on Thursday to confer with party President Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Rahul Gandhi, with the objective of assessing the party’s readiness for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting mirrored a previous discussion held with the Maharashtra Congress unit members.
The deliberation saw participation from notable Uttarakhand Congress figures, including former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, PCC President Karan Mahara, and AICC in-charge for the state, Devender Yadav. AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, along with all AICC secretaries for the hill state, also attended the meeting.
Expressing the party’s commitment to eco-friendly development of the Himalayan states, Kharge reassured the state unit that the Congress will persistently advocate for flood victims and the people of Uttarakhand. He lauded the state’s party members for posing a robust opposition against the BJP government’s policies deemed detrimental to the people.
Kharge emphasised that their collective endeavour should be fostering harmony among the people of Uttarakhand, propelling the state towards progress, and continually representing the interests of society’s weaker segments.
“In these trying times due to the floods and landslides in Uttarakhand, our immediate obligation is to assist the public and ensure they receive necessary aid from the government system,” he said.
The Congress president stressed the necessity for a comprehensive policy regarding the Himalayan states, addressing climate change and its impacts. He underscored that any development initiatives should be executed with the explicit consent of the local population.
