In response to the recent ordinance introduced by the Central government regarding the control of services in Delhi, Congress leaders from Delhi and Punjab held a meeting. The meeting was organized after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sought the support of opposition parties against the ordinance. Notable Congress leaders like Partap Singh Bajwa, Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit, and others were present at the meeting. However, sources indicate that the Congress leaders were against extending support to the AAP government in Delhi regarding this matter.
The Union government introduced the ordinance to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991. This move is seen as an attempt to circumvent the Supreme Court judgment in the Centre vs Delhi case. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, strongly criticized the ordinance, describing it as “undemocratic and illegal.” Kejriwal argues that the ordinance attacks the basic structure of the Constitution.
In an effort to rally opposition against the ordinance, Kejriwal plans to meet with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai. Additionally, AAP has announced its decision to hold a ‘Maha-Rally’ in Delhi to voice their opposition to the Centre’s ordinance. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai made this announcement on Monday.
