Congress demands Lok Sabha discussion on Deportation of Indians from US

On Thursday, Congress introduced an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, urging a discussion on the recent expulsion of more than 100 Indian citizens from the United States.

“The expulsion of over 100 Indian citizens, mostly from Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, by the US government has occurred under circumstances that are profoundly distressing and degrading. Among those expelled are 25 women, 12 minors, and 79 men. Reports have emerged that these individuals were shackled and subjected to degrading treatment during their deportation, raising significant concerns regarding their human dignity and rights,” stated the motion presented by Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi.

The motion also claimed, “This House must urgently tackle this matter to avert further dehumanisation of our people and to maintain the dignity of every Indian, whether at home or abroad. ”

Deportees Interrogated by Security Agencies on Arrival

On Wednesday, a US Air Force C-17 military plane with 104 Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar, marking the first large-scale deportation under the Trump administration’s heightened enforcement, which was promised after taking office last month. As per sources quoted by PTI, the deported individuals comprised 33 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, 30 from Punjab, three from Maharashtra, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh.

The C-17 Globemaster aircraft arrived at Amritsar airport at 1:55 pm, just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Washington DC for talks with President Trump. Upon their arrival, the deportees were interrogated inside the airport terminal by several agencies, including the Punjab Police and both state and central intelligence units, to check for any criminal history among them.

By 6:45 pm, those from Punjab were taken to their hometowns in police vehicles after completing all required procedures. Likewise, officials from Haryana escorted deportees from their state back to their homes, sources reported.
