The Congress party, on Tuesday, intensified its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the allegations raised by the US-based short seller Hindenburg’s report, particularly concerning SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch.
Addressing the media, Congress MP KC Venugopal stated that a meeting of AICC General Secretaries, Incharges, and PCC presidents was convened under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss what he described as “one of the biggest scams happening in the country right now—the Hindenburg revelations, the scam related to Adani and SEBI.”
Venugopal emphasized the party’s readiness to face scrutiny, even if it involves Congress members. “We are requesting the government to investigate if any Congressman is involved. We are prepared for that investigation. If there is a conspiracy from INDIA parties, that should also be investigated. Why is the Central Government avoiding an investigation? They should not use the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a tool against us,” he remarked.
The meeting also touched on other significant issues, including the ongoing protests in Bangladesh and the party’s continued demand for a nationwide caste census. Venugopal reiterated the call for a caste census, urging the Government of India to conduct it without delay. He also advocated for the Wayanad disaster to be declared a national disaster and discussed the natural calamities affecting Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Northeastern states.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh echoed the demand for a JPC, citing new revelations in the Adani-Hindenburg case. He also stressed the need for a national caste census, highlighting the central government’s constitutional responsibility to ensure social, economic, and political justice.
