Congress criticism of VP hits a new low

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly rebuked Congress leaders for their continuous criticism of Prime Minister Modi, stressing the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in politics. The Vice President’s criticism came after a video of him greeting the Prime Minister, shared by Congress social media handles, went viral. During his address, he expressed concern about the negative impact of disrespecting institutions and highlighted the need for restraint.  The Vice President did not directly name any political party or individuals but referred to the dangerous consequences of escalating negativity.

Earlier, on November 28, Congress accused the Vice President of “sycophancy” for equating Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi. The Congress MP criticised the comparison on Twitter, stating there should be a limit to sycophancy. On July 28, 2022, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s comment about President Droupadi Murmu caused controversy. Chowdhury’s remarks on a national TV channel were seen as targeting President Murmu, even after her election. Smriti Irani flayed the Congress for continuing its attacks against President Murmu. Referring to a 2019 incident, the Vice President pointed out Congress leader Divya Spandana’s tweet characterising Modi supporters as unintelligent.

He highlighted that such negativity has crossed the line, citing Spandana’s past sedition charges for a tweet calling the Prime Minister a “thief” in 2018. The Vice President criticized the repeated insults and dishonor towards institutions by the Congress party. The attack on VP is not only disrespecting the office of VP but is also constantly lowering the level of public discourse .

While the Congress has always accused the BJP of disregarding institutions this latest attack on VP and constant attack on PM and office of President reflects the bankruptcy of the party though and views and the silence of its allies is baffling. Not one leader of the opposition has come forward and condemned this disrespect of office of Vice President despite the provocative post by the Congress through its official handles.
