Comedian Munawar Faruqui has been placed under police protection following an assassination attempt by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which targeted him over a controversial joke. The gang reportedly tracked him to a hotel in Delhi where he was scheduled to perform. Quick action from intelligence agencies prevented the attack, ensuring his safety and relocating him under police protection.
Last month, city police provided security for stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui as a precaution after reports emerged that members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang attempted to kill him in Delhi. A senior official confirmed the security measures but declined to provide further details for security reasons.
Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang followed the Mumbai-based comedian, who is on their hit list, and even booked a room at the same Delhi hotel where Faruqui was staying for a performance in September.
Thanks to the swift intervention of intelligence agencies, the attack was thwarted, and Faruqui was moved to safety under police cover. “The gang was outraged over his joke regarding Hindu deities. Shooters were assigned to carry out the hit during an event in Delhi. They even traveled on the same flight as him from Mumbai and had a reservation at the hotel where he was scheduled to stay. Fortunately, intelligence agencies alerted the Delhi police, which led to the plan being foiled,” an official familiar with the situation revealed.
