Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said the Congress party’s sweeping victory in the recently concluded municipal elections reflects public approval of the government’s performance and welfare-oriented governance.
Participating in the birth anniversary celebrations of Sant Sevalal Maharaj in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister stated that Congress secured nearly 90 percent of municipal seats across the state. He described the results as an encouragement to continue working towards the empowerment of poor and marginalised communities.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised that the government maintains political restraint irrespective of electoral outcomes. “Our frame of mind is not to be overly thrilled in victory or discouraged in defeat. We continuously work for people,” he said, adding that he personally accepted responsibility for the municipal poll results.
Clarifying controversy surrounding his “Nene Raju Nene Mantri” remark, Revanth Reddy said the statement was made in his official capacity as Chief Minister and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister while taking accountability for election outcomes. He alleged that opposition leaders deliberately distorted his comments and accused them of believing they were “born to rule.”
Highlighting tribal welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister announced the construction of a grand statue of Sant Sevalal Maharaj on 20 acres in the Nallamala forest, with structures designed according to tribal traditions. He credited the Lambada community for playing a crucial role throughout his two-decade political journey, from a ZPTC member to Chief Minister.
The government, he said, will construct BT roads in all tribal tandas and improve infrastructure by developing government schools, gram panchayat buildings, water tanks and solar-powered drinking water facilities. He also criticised previous regimes, alleging that Mission Bhagiratha failed to provide safe drinking water in several rural habitations.
Targeting former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, Revanth Reddy accused him of betraying Dalits by not fulfilling the promise of appointing a Dalit Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister highlighted welfare initiatives including fine rice distribution to ration card holders, 200 units of free electricity for poor households, free bus travel for women, and large-scale job recruitment benefiting SC, ST and BC communities.
