The Incident Inside the Supreme Court

The incident occurred when a bench headed by CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran was hearing the mentioning of cases. During the proceedings, a 71-year-old lawyer, later identified as Rakesh Kishore, approached the dais, took off his shoe, and tried to throw it toward the judges.

However, the quick response from the security personnel prevented any harm. The situation was brought under control within moments.

Despite the commotion, CJI Gavai remained calm and composed, telling the lawyers present in the courtroom, “Don’t get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me.” He then continued with the court proceedings as usual.

Justice Ujjal Bhuyyan, reacting to the matter later, remarked, “I have my own views on this! He is the CJI, it’s not a matter of joke!”

Following the incident, Delhi Police detained the lawyer for questioning. According to officials, Rakesh Kishore was questioned for three hours but was later released since the Supreme Court registry decided not to press charges against him.
