CISF deployed at RG Kar Medical College after SC’s order

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been deployed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata following a Supreme Court order issued on Tuesday. The court directed the handover of security to the CISF during a hearing on the suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the institution.

The decision to bring in the CISF came amid growing protests and unrest over the tragic incident. On August 21, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) wrote to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal regarding the deployment, emphasizing the need for enhanced security at the hospital and college complex.

Addressing the media on Thursday, CISF Deputy Inspector General K. Pratap Singh stated, “CISF personnel have already been deployed across all shifts. While I cannot disclose the specific number of personnel, rest assured that we are fully operational. Let us do our job, and you will see the results.”

The deployment is part of broader security measures to maintain order in the state as public agitation continues to rise in response to the incident. The CISF’s presence is expected to reinforce security and ease tensions in the affected area.
