Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have struck a major blow against a covert terror-support network allegedly hiding behind social activism. The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) carried out coordinated raids across multiple districts, uncovering a network suspected of glorifying terrorism, radicalising youth, and destabilising public order—all under the cover of legitimate social causes.

Authorities say the operation has disrupted the network and seized crucial digital evidence, marking a significant step in safeguarding the region’s security.

CIK Raids Strike at Alleged Terror Network in Kashmir

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir launched major raids on Tuesday that targeted a covert terrorsupport network allegedly operating under the guise of social activism. The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted coordinated searches at multiple locations across the Valley. Authorities say the group exploited platforms linked to human rights, environmental issues and media outreach as a cover to further antinational agendas.

What Triggered the Operation?

Credible intelligence indicated that certain individuals were using mass media, social media and activism fronts to spread false narratives, glorify terrorism, and radicalise youth.

Investigators found alleged links between the suspects and secessionist outfits as well as banned terror organisations. Several were also reportedly in touch with handlers based across the international border via encrypted messaging apps.

How the Raids Were Carried Out?

Predawn actions were conducted at 12 locations across seven districts, including Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Budgam and Shopian. Teams operated simultaneously to prevent the destruction of evidence and to ensure swift detentions.

The raids were executed under search warrants issued by a Special Court in Srinagar designated under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act. Officials said the actions are connected to a case registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Suspects Detained and Evidence Seized

During the operation, 12 suspects were detained for questioning. Investigators seized a substantial cache of digital material, including:

  • 10 mobile phones
  • 1 laptop
  • 14 SIM cards

All items are now undergoing detailed forensic analysis to map communication and activities. Law enforcement officials said the evidence may reveal wider involvement and deeper layers of the network.

Allegations Against the Network

Officials allege that the suspects used social causes to mask activities that threatened India’s sovereignty and public order. The group is accused of:

  • Spreading false and inflammatory narratives
  • Glorifying terrorism online
  • Radicalising young people
  • Attempting to disrupt peace and social harmony in the region

Authorities also say some individuals maintained contact with Pakistanbased handlers through secure messaging platforms.

Government Response and Ongoing Investigation

CIK described the operation as a significant blow to elements attempting to misuse democratic spaces for subversive activities. Investigators are now working to:

  • Trace the full extent of the conspiracy
  • Identify additional conspirators
  • Uncover communication networks linked to handlers abroad
  • Officials warn that more arrests are possible as the probe deepens.

Public Appeal for Vigilance

In a statement following the raids, CIK urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious behaviour. Authorities reiterated that misuse of social platforms to promote terror or undermine peace will not be tolerated and will be met with strict action.

Why This Operation Matters?

This crackdown signals a broader focus on disrupting terror support systems that operate beneath the surface, particularly those that use seemingly legitimate causes to mask dangerous intentions. The raids underscore the ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir and the importance of intelligencedriven operations in maintaining stability in the region.
