Srinagar, Dec 4: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) and the Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out coordinated raids at Central Jail, Srinagar, today as part of an ongoing investigation into a terror-related case. The operation led to the confiscation of several digital devices, including mobile phones, allegedly used to support terror activities.
According to an official statement, the searches were conducted under a court-issued warrant by the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar. The investigation relates to case FIR No. 06/2023, registered under Sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B of the IPC, alongside Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The case involves a wider conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by banned terror groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir and across the Line of Control (LoC), with suspected backing from Pakistani agencies. These groups, working with Over Ground Workers (OGWs), facilitators, and sympathizers, are accused of using social media platforms to radicalize youth and recruit them into terror networks.
Preliminary findings revealed that mobile phones and other digital tools were being used by undertrial terrorists, OGWs, and sympathizers within Central Jail, Srinagar. “These individuals were reportedly passing instructions from handlers across the border to enable terror operations in the Valley,” the statement said.
During the operation, searches were carried out in multiple blocks and barracks, leading to the seizure of SIM cards, mobile phones, and other devices critical to the investigation.
Authorities are also examining potential lapses in security that allowed communication devices to enter the high-security facility. “Uncovering the role of collaborators and facilitators in smuggling these devices into the jail is a priority for investigators,” the statement added.
This operation is part of a larger crackdown aimed at dismantling terror networks in the Union Territory.
