In Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, a wild elephant killed at least four people, including three from the same family, according to officials. This tragic event brings the number of deaths from elephant attacks in the area to nine over the past month.
The incident occurred on the night between Friday and Saturday in the Gamhriya area of Bagicha Nagar Panchayat. The victims, Ramkeshwar Soni (35), his daughter Ravita (9), his brother Ajay (25), and their neighbor Ashwin Kujur (28), were attacked while they were sleeping at home.
Jitendra Upadhyay, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) for the Jashpur division, explained that the elephant entered Bagicha Nagar Panchayat at midnight and wandered into the village. It damaged the wall of Soni’s house and trampled the three family members to death. When neighbor Kujur responded to their cries, he too was killed by the elephant.
