A 35-year-old BJP worker, Kudiam Mado, was killed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on suspicion of being a police informer, according to an official report on Wednesday. This marks the fifth civilian murder by Naxalites in the district in the past seven days.
The incident occurred on the night of December 10 when Mado was at his home in Somanpalli village, under the jurisdiction of the Farsegarh police station. A group of Naxals stormed into his house, dragged him outside, and strangled him to death. A pamphlet found at the scene attributed the murder to the Maoists’ national park area committee, claiming Mado had been acting as a police informer.
Following the discovery, the police were alerted on Wednesday morning. A team was dispatched to the location, and Mado’s body was sent for post-mortem. Authorities have launched a search operation in the area to locate the assailants.
This attack comes just days after several other killings in the district. On December 4, two former sarpanchs, one of whom was also a BJP worker, were killed in separate incidents. The violence continued on December 6, when Naxals murdered a woman anganwadi assistant, followed by another woman being strangled to death on December 7.
With the latest killing, over 60 individuals have been killed in Naxal-related violence this year in the Bastar division, which includes Bijapur. Notably, nine BJP leaders were also killed between January 2023 and April 2024 in the same region, according to police reports.
