The Jammu and Kashmir assembly witnessed renewed disruptions for the third consecutive day as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs clashed over a proposed resolution to reinstate the region’s special status under Article 370.
Awami Ittehad Party MLA Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, who is the brother of Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, displayed a banner supporting the resolution. Sheikh, along with at least 15 BJP MLAs, was eventually ejected from the House by marshals following loud protests and slogans from the BJP members.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather ordered their removal after they stormed the well of the House, intensifying the standoff. The assembly session was adjourned on Thursday due to clashes between BJP MLAs and marshals, marking the second day of protests over the special status resolution.
