Chandigarh Electricity Rates Increase Effective August 1

Electricity rates have been increased in Chandigarh. The new rates will be applicable from 1st August. Aaj Samaj had already given information about this. A news regarding this was also published on 22nd June. This news has now been confirmed. Electricity prices are going to increase from August 1. After hearing the petition of the Engineering Department of the Administration, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the increase in electricity prices in two slabs. Electricity will become expensive by a maximum of 16 percent. Domestic electricity The fixed charges on electricity bills will be doubled directly.

Electricity supply in the city is done by the engineering department of the administration, but it is JERC which decides whether the electricity prices will increase or decrease.
This time the Engineering Department had proposed a 23.35% hike in domestic electricity prices, but during the public hearing, people had strongly opposed the hike in prices. BJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders clashed with each other. There was a lot of debate. Police The JERC had to call a committee till 23.35%. The JERC had stopped the hearing midway. It was believed that the electricity prices will not increase but JERC gave a shock to the people by approving a 16% hike in electricity prices instead of 23.35%.

There is no increase in the initial slab, but increase in the other two
There has been no increase in the initial slab of 0-150 units. Earlier people had to spend Rs 2.75 per unit, and now they will have to pay the same amount. Earlier people had to pay Rs 4.25 for 151 to 400 units, now they have to pay Rs 4.80. For more than 400 units, earlier one had to spend Rs 4.65 per unit, now one will have to spend Rs 5.40. The biggest increase has been in the fixed charge, which has been increased from Rs 15 to Rs 30 directly. The highest in the city The electricity consumption of houses is between 151 to 400 units. Therefore, the electricity bill of maximum houses in Chandigarh will increase in the coming days.

There is no increase in the first two slabs of the commercial category
There is no change in the prices in the first two slabs of the commercial category. 0-150 units will still cost Rs 4.50 per unit, 151-400 will cost Rs 4.70 per unit. Above 400 units will cost Rs 5.00 per unit from the earlier price Instead you will have to spend Rs 5.90.
