Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accused the Central government of canceling the allotment of her official residence at 6 Flag Staff Road for the second time in three months. She claimed the eviction notice, served by the Public Works Department (PWD), was delivered on Monday evening—just a day before the Election Commission announced the Delhi Assembly election schedule—suggesting a political motive behind the move.

Atishi alleged the BJP was targeting her as part of a vendetta. “When I became Chief Minister, the BJP threw my belongings on the road. They can take our homes and disrupt our work, but they cannot diminish our passion for serving Delhi’s people. If necessary, I will live in the homes of Delhi residents and continue working for them,” she said while addressing supporters.

Reaffirming her commitment to the people, Atishi pledged to implement initiatives such as the Mahila Samman Yojana, offering ₹2,100 to every woman, a ₹18,000 honorarium for priests, and free healthcare for senior citizens under the Sanjeevani Yojana. The eviction notice offers Atishi two alternative accommodations: Bungalow No. 2 at 8 Raj Niwas Lane in Civil Lines or Bungalow No. 115 at Ansari Road in Daryaganj.

According to PWD sources, Atishi failed to move into the Chief Minister’s residence within the stipulated time of a week after assuming office. This reportedly led to the cancellation of her allotment. Sources also alleged that Atishi intentionally delayed occupying the residence to obstruct ongoing investigations into the property. The controversy escalated when AAP MP Sanjay Singh countered BJP allegations of extravagant features like gold-plated toilets and a swimming pool at the CM’s residence.

Singh invited the media to visit the residence to debunk the claims, declaring, “If there are golden toilets and a swimming pool, let the country see them.” Singh also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of living an excessively lavish lifestyle. “PM Modi resides in a ₹2,700 crore house, changes clothes three times a day, owns pens worth ₹10 lakh, and has a ₹300 crore carpet woven with golden threads. Show this to the nation,” Singh said.

In response, BJP leader Amit Malviya accused Atishi of refusing to occupy the residence to avoid upsetting her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal. “Atishi was allotted Sheesh Mahal on October 11, 2024. She didn’t move in because she didn’t want to offend Kejriwal. Hence, the allotment was canceled, and two other bungalows were offered,” Malviya stated.
