
CDS General Anil Chauhan addresses the ‘Ran Samvad’ conclave at Army War College, Mhow, stressing peace through power and future war readiness (ANI)
Defense Forces chief General Anil Chauhan led Indian Armed Forces asserted their dedication to peace but does not compromise in ensuring the country's security. Speaking at the two-day 'Ran Samvad' conclave at the Army War College, Mhow, General Chauhan said that peace without power is nothing but an illusion. Quoting the Latin maxim "if you want peace, prepare for war", he underscored the need for strong military posture in view of safeguarding national interests.
Reminded that India's image as a peace-loving nation must not be misread as weakness or pacifism. Lessons from Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor is ongoing, and it continues shaping the future defense preparedness of India while reflecting on the action taken after the terror attack on Pahalgam. It has provided several important lessons for modern warfare and many of them are already being applied in strategy and practice. While he refrained from unfolding the operational issues, he stressed that the conclave mainly aims at going beyond the present mission to deliberate on the nature of future conflicts in which the armies will fight.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will give the plenary presentation on the final day of conference, which will take held on August 26-27 and bring serving military professionals to the forefront of strategic dialogue.

General Chauhan spelled out what he believes are the four defining trends that characterize modern warfare. First, he pointed to the increasing trend worldwide utilizing short but highly decisive military operations to achieve political objectives.
Second, he noted the now almost undifferentiated boundary between war and peace, with nations now potentially always embroiled in competition, crisis and confrontation independent of actual declared war.

Modern wars are not about sacrificing people they are about engagement and public perception highlighted by the emphasis on people. Finally, he underlined a change in the definition of victory from running up numbers of captured enemies and destroyed equipment to determining the speed, precision and impact of military operations.
Yet the defense capabilities that Indias advanced defense must include more than technologically advanced systems in doctrine and strategy and implementation to ensure the nation becomes a Viksit, Shashastra, Suraksit and Aatmanirbhar, according to the CDS himself. Closing with what he stressed on joint operations right across land, sea, air, cyber and space, he maintained that India's security challenges demand such a united, swift and decisive response.
