The audacious robbery at a jewelry showroom in Delhi was carefully orchestrated, Delhi Police sources said Tuesday. They revealed that the thieves had taken precise measures, including disabling the store’s closed-circuit camera system, before executing the theft, which amounted to over Rs 25 crore.
The absence of internal CCTV footage at Umrao Singh Jewellery showroom in Jangpura has presented a significant obstacle in the investigation. This has compelled the police to rely on external surveillance cameras to gather as much information as possible.
A PCR call was received at PS Nizamuddin at 10.55 am regarding burglary in a Jewellery shop at Bhogal Market, Jungpura. Probe teams are currently reviewing video footage from the Bhogal area in Jangpura to identify the perpetrators.
The massive burglary was discovered on Tuesday morning when the proprietor entered the store and observed damaged equipment and a huge hole in the wall of the strongroom, which had valuables. Additionally, the burglars took the  jewellery that was on display in the showroom.
The loot took place some time between Sunday evening and Monday night, the police said.
The owners have reported theft of 30 kg of gold jewellery and 5 lakhs in cash.
“The thieves cut off the CCTV footage before entering to rob the jewellery and the cash,” a senior police officer privy to the investigation said.
The accused were well aware of the showroom’s architecture, an officer said, and knew exactly where to go. They had also done a proper recce of the area and the store, he added. Sources said the execution of the burglary was strategic and meticulous. The thieves jumped on the terrace of the showroom from an adjacent building, they said, and came down to the strongroom on the ground floor. Cops suspect there were at least three robbers.
