The discovery of a scorched body inside a suitcase in the Ghazipur neighborhood of Delhi has exposed a sad story of live-in partnership, dishonesty, and killing.

About a strange suitcase in an outlying part of Ghazipur in east Delhi, the local police were informed. Upon approaching the site, they discovered a totally burnt body within. A case of killing and evidence destroyed was filed; several squads were given orders to probe.

Initial cluelessness, said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police for East Delhi. A burned human and a burnt suitcase. Our first step was to look at the location of the suitcase using CCTV footage.

The inquiry brought the police to a Hyundai Verna spotted close to the site just before the body was found. Following a check of the car’s registration number, they located it to a Loni resident. The maker remarked he had sold it to Amit Tiwari.

Further CCTV video helped identify Amit Tiwari, age 22; he and his buddy Anuj Kumar were both taken into custody. The corpse was recognized by a Ghaziabad taxi driver named Amit to be that of his 22-year-old cousin, Shilpa Pandey. He let it known he and Shilpa have been cohabiting for a year. Amit had been trying to end their marriage, but Shilpa had been pressing him.

In a drunken fury, Amit admitted he strangled Shilpa after a heated argument on Saturday evening. He subsequently put her corpse in a carry-on luggage and rang Anuj, a Ghaziabad welding technician, to assist with burial.

The victim had been forcing Amit to abandon his family and reside with her, according the police report, under threat of untrue allegations against his family and himself. The two men tried to destroy the body in western Uttar Pradesh after acquiring diesel for Rs 160, but they changed their plan and dumped it close Ghazipur. They lit the works up to erase the evidence.

Greater Noida police caught Amit. Shilpa’s parents live in Surat, Gujarat, and were oblivious of the circumstances that resulted in her fatal death.
