A three-storey building collapsed near Sadbhavna Park in Delhi’s Daryaganj area on Wednesday afternoon. Police confirmed that three people died in the incident. Their bodies have been sent to Lok Nayak Hospital.
The collapse was reported at 12.14 pm. Soon after, Delhi Fire Services rushed four fire tenders to the site. Officials said that three people were pulled out alive from the debris and immediately taken to the hospital.
Police said civic authorities, including the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), were informed without delay. Rescue and relief teams reached the spot and started operations. “Three persons were rescued from the debris and immediately taken to the hospital,” said a Delhi Fire Services official.
The full extent of the damage and the number of injured are not yet clear. Officials said legal action would be taken once facts are verified.
The cause behind the collapse has not yet been established. Authorities are inspecting the site to determine whether the structure was weak, illegal, or damaged due to other reasons. Police have said the matter is under investigation.
This incident comes just over a month after another major building collapse in Delhi. On July 12, six members of a family were killed when an unauthorised four-storey building in the Welcome area came crashing down.

That collapse left eight others injured, including four relatives of the victims. It also damaged at least five nearby buildings. Locals had said the 40-year-old structure underwent renovation only five years earlier.
Many parts of Delhi, including Daryaganj, still have old and weak residential buildings. Experts warn that unauthorised constructions and poor maintenance increase the risk of such accidents. Residents have often raised safety concerns, especially during the monsoon season when water seepage weakens old structures.
Officials said they are focused on completing rescue efforts first. Once the operation ends, an inquiry will be carried out to find responsibility. Police assured that necessary legal action would follow.
The tragic collapse highlights the urgent need for stronger building safety checks in crowded neighbourhoods of the capital.
