BREAKING | 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Assam’s Dhekiajuli!

An earthquake hit near the city of Guwahati around 4.41 PM today, creating a wave of panic in the city.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Assam’s Dhekiajuli. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9.  The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 hit close to Dhekiajuli of Assam at 4:41 pm today. The tremors were felt in the state capital, Guwahati as well. This created a wave of panic among residents who came out of their homes rushing towards safe grounds. No loss of life or property has been reported as of now. 

Strong Vibrations Were Felt

The tremors of the earthquake were felt serious enough for people to rush out if their homes in panic. The residents report that the ground was strongly shaking and was fearful enough to scare the commoners. 

Tremors across North Bengal, Bhutan

The vibrations of the earthquake were strong enough and were felt along North Bengal and Bhutan as well. Reportedly, some areas of Nepal and Bangladesh also felt the tremors. 

Epicentre near Assam’s Dhekiajuli

The epicentre of the earthquake is calculated to be in Sonitpur district, around 16 kms from Dhekiajuli. The epicentre is said to be near Tezpur in Assam. 

No Serious Damage Reported

No damage of life or property has been reported but the visuals of the earthquake effects have started were strong and fearful. The shaking of buildings and the floors was visible enough. 

Social media is filled with live user accounts and videos recording the shaking, with most reacting with relief that the earthquake did not lead to major damage. People have been advised by local authorities to depend on credible updates and not spread false information to avoid panic.
