Mumbai Police, investigating the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui, conducted an ossification test on one of the accused, Dharmaraj Kashyap, which confirmed that he is not a minor, according to an official report on Monday.
Baba Siddiqui was shot dead on Saturday in Bandra by three assailants. The police arrested two suspects—23-year-old Gurmail Baljit Singh from Haryana and 19-year-old Dharmaraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh. However, one accomplice managed to escape the scene.
During their court appearance, Kashyap’s lawyer argued that he was a minor, prompting the court to order an ossification test. The test, conducted on Sunday, confirmed that Kashyap is an adult. He was then remanded in police custody until October 21.
In a related development, Mumbai Police’s crime branch also arrested 28-year-old Pravin Lonkar from Pune. He is the brother of Shubham Lonkar, who is linked to a previous firing incident in Nirmal Nagar. The Lonkar brothers, along with Kashyap and another individual named Shivkumar Gautam, allegedly conspired to murder Siddiqui, the official stated.
The investigation is ongoing.
