Bodies Of UP Workers Killed In Kuwait Fire Handed Over To Families In Gorakhpur

Officials handed over the mortal remains of the victims of the Kuwait fire incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Saturday.

Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue), Vineet Kumar Singh, detailed the handover, saying, “Two residents of Gorakhpur had died in the Kuwait fire incident… Their mortal remains have reached today. Their relatives are here. The administration is with the families of the deceased…”

The fire, which occurred at a labor accommodation in Mangaf, Kuwait, on June 12, claimed the lives of three people from Uttar Pradesh, among a total of 45 Indians. The victims from Gorakhpur were identified as Angad Gupta (48) and Jairam Gupta (38). Both had been working in the Gulf country for nearly a decade and had recently returned to work after spending time with their families.

Angad Gupta’s wife, Reeta Devi, spoke to ANI, saying, “Angad was staying in Kuwait for the last eight years and used to visit India from time to time. He was working in a mall.” Angad, the family’s sole breadwinner, is survived by his wife and their two children, including his daughter Anshika.

Additionally, the final rites of Sivashankar Govindhan, one of the seven people from Tamil Nadu killed in the Kuwait fire, were performed today at the Royapuram crematorium in Chennai. Forty-eight-year-old Govindhan, who had been working as a truck driver in Kuwait for over a year, was among the 45 Indians who was killed in the fire. He is survived by his wife, Hema Kumari, daughter Shanthika, and son Deepak Raj.

In Odisha, Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with other leaders, paid their last respects to the victims from the state after their mortal remains arrived in Bhubaneswar.
