The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a red alert on Thursday morning, after intense rainfall lashed regions of Delhi-NCR. The heavy rains caused many roads to be submerged, hindering cars from moving quickly. In APSColony, a BMW was observed marooned in floodwater, with the water reaching up to the car's doors.

As the rain got heavier, the authorities elevated the yellow signal to a red one. Many vehicles were stopped in knee-deep water, and commuters had to endure lengthy delays.
Social media was flooded with videos of submerged roads and struggling vehicles. In several clips, cars, buses, and two-wheelers could be seen half-submerged, while pedestrians waded through murky water.

X users shared their frustration and sarcasm about the city’s drainage system. Monica Jasuja wrote, “None of us are surprised by this. Not one person living in Delhi for a while expected anything different.”
Another user, @libelousnine, criticised the lack of preparation. “Administration should be well prepared before monsoon, cleaning drains... proper way out for sudden flow, I don't understand when they will learn, people are the ultimate sufferers,” they wrote.
In the upcoming hours, Delhi-NCR and the neighboring states of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Madhya Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh are expected to have a lot of rain, according to the IMD.

In Delhi’s Kalkaji area, heavy rainfall led to the uprooting of a large tree that fell on multiple vehicles. The incident killed a biker and crushed a four-wheeler. Several others sustained injuries.
Civic agencies rushed to the spot to remove the tree and clear the road. Eyewitnesses reported that the tree also damaged nearby parked vehicles.
Reports confirmed that the victim died instantly after the tree fell, while injured persons were taken to nearby hospitals.
In Laxmi Nagar and RK Puram sector 9, similar events took place as heavy rainfall and fierce winds caused trees to be uprooted. These events intensified the traffic congestion and introduced further danger for those on their way to work who were already battling their way through inundated streets.
The heavy rain hit the capital just days before Independence Day celebrations. Several underpasses were flooded, raising concerns about traffic management and public safety during upcoming events.
